NYC Summer Youth Employment Program
Interboro is excited to have Jonathan Sutchen join the office this summer as a high school intern from the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). The SYEP is the nation's largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities during the summer. Jonathan is a rising senior at the Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design (WHSAD), a public high school that specializes in the integration of architecture, design, and historic preservation into its classes. Jonathan comes to Interboro with skills in architectural drafting, model making, and design fundamentals. During his time here, Jonathan has been working with our team one a public placemaking project in the Southern Boulevard neighborhood of the Bronx by conducting research and mapping data about the area. Reflecting on his time with Interboro so far, Jonathan says:
"[Interboro] has tested my understanding of the designing and planning process and tackled what I know about architecture by [considering] all structures in an urban, outdoor setting...The kind folks at Interboro Partners have taught me that it's often better to take a step back; to look at a problem from all angles and to analyze an environment...before jumping into the design of a grand construction that wouldn't fit on a street or causes more problems than it fixes."
