This project is about turning the BQE underpass at Atlantic Avenue into a gateway of Atlantic Avenue, by strategically reimagining the design and thereby the perception of this piece of infrastructure.
On the macro-scale, the Atlantic Avenue Gateway is a potentially crucial hinge between Brooklyn Bridge Park and the Atlantic Avenue Corridor.
The problem is that the hinge doesn’t work very well on the micro-scale.
Small, strategic and easily implementable design changes at this hinge point can have a large scale impact by connecting the Park and the Corridor.
